The history of the airbag

Overview:

The ship airbag launching technology was invented by China in the early 1980s. This technology with my country’s completely independent intellectual property rights, after 30 years of improvement and development, now has the launching capacity of 100,000-ton ships. Its application and development have caused a “revolutionary” change in shipbuilding technology. It is a major contribution to the ship launching process.

The technology of airbag launching is also called “flexible launching technology”, which is developed on the basis of traditional slide launching technology. It uses flexible airbags to replace slides and skateboards, and overcomes many shortcomings of traditional slide launching. The flexible airbag is like an elastic cushion. It allows the hull to pitch freely during launching, maintains a large contact area under the ship, and relaxes the force on the ship’s bottom, so that the hull structure and surface paint (coating) are not Will be damaged.

Compared with the traditional slide launching technology, the airbag launching technology has the following advantages:

(1) The investment in the basic construction of the shipyard is saved. In the basic construction of the shipyard, the investment in launching facilities, such as the traditional launching slide and its underwater engineering, is very amazing. Shipyards using airbag launching technology only need to build simple ramps, simple facilities, and no complicated underwater engineering, which greatly saves the investment in the shipyard’s capital construction.

(2) Simplified launching process. The preparations for launching with airbags can be completed within one or two days, and the operation is simple for workers. After the airbags are used, they can be recycled and reused, reducing the production cost of shipbuilding.

(3) Ship airbag launching technology has no waste discharged into the water, which is conducive to environmental protection.

The launching of the airbag mentioned in this article refers to the longitudinal launching of the ship. When launching longitudinally, the ship can have the bow forward or the tail forward. However, since the tail of the ship is usually full, it decelerates faster after launching, and the tail forward is widely used. This article discusses the problem of launching with the tail forward, and all conclusions are applicable to the situation with the head forward.
